Kairos Outside began as an idea from the chaplain at California's San Quentin State Correctional Facility in 1989. The concept was to bolster the relatives and friends on the outside who support their loved ones in prison.
Kairos Outside of North Carolina began in July 2000 when Helen Hauser attended a National Conference for Kairos in Raleigh, NC. It was at that conference that she learned about Kairos Outside for the first time. Helen felt called by God to start Kairos Outside here in North Carolina. It was not until July 2002 that Helen met the people she needed to begin this great ministry.
Kairos Outside #1 was held November 14-16, 2003 at Camp Dixie near Fayetteville with Helen as the first leader. God assembled a wonderful team that was able to bless the first group of guests.
Because of incredible growth in the state, Kairos Outside of North Carolina will have two advisory councils. One for the east and one for the west. This will allow us to have four weekends each year beginning in 2010. There will be two each in the east and west.
Over the course of ten weekends through 2008, we have been able to bless over 120 women with God's love and grace. Over 120 team members have also been blessed as they served. Many guests have returned to work on teams. We praise God for what he has done through forming His body in our teams and Jesus has been our head.
