Kairos Outside of Eastern NC  Advisory Council is seeking nominations

The program ministries of Kairos Prison Ministry International are defined by the Board of Directors and delegated to the State Chapter to oversee the implementation of the ministry through the Advisory Council.  It is the Advisory Council that oversees the local ministry where God has called you into service.  You, as a volunteer in the Kairos Outside program, are part of a great cloud of witnesses that extends around the world, all working to help restore lost and damaged lives into the Body of Christ.

The Advisory Council is a body of volunteers in the Kairos Outside of Easterrn NC (KOENC) ministry, just like you, who have come to recognize that God has need for people to serve in leadership roles for the benefit and health of the ministry.  As a member of the local Kairos community, you not only participate in the hands-on ministry, but you participate in the election of persons who serve as members of the Advisory Council, and possibly, you are called to serve as a member yourself.

As a member of the Kairos Community, it is important to understand that there are some “basics” in the life of our local Advisory Council:

Body of Christ Vision

Everyone in the Kairos Community is important to the workings of the ministry, and we are part of a much larger effort throughout the state, the country and the world.  As described in 1 Corinthians 12, we are one Body with many parts.

Community Participation

People cycle through the leadership of the ministry by serving on the Advisory Council for a period of time, and then cycling out to make room for other, newer Community members so that they can participate and grow in their understanding of the ministry.  It is foundational to the long term health of the ministry that people do not become entrenched on teams, and on the Advisory Council.

Living in Obedience and Sacrificial Servanthood

The Kairos ministry is one that calls for volunteers to live in a spirit of obedience and sacrificial servanthood. Advisory Council members are called to live out this spirit of obedience to the methods and practices of the ministry.  We serve, not in conflict, but in unity.

Cornerstones of the Advisory Council

The key functions of the Advisory Council include the following:

- Outreach – Telling the Kairos story to as many people as possible (speakers bureau)

- Communications – Keeping the Community connected (updating mailing list, mailings)

- Training & Technical Assistance with KPMI’s Ezra software

- Stewardship – Providing the funding for the ministry

- Ministry – Being responsible for overseeing the weekend retreats

 NOMINATIONS

All this is an introduction to your KOENC Advisory Council.  We are seeking nominations from the Community for people to serve 3 year terms beginning January 2012.  Qualifications are that someone be active in their church community, in a prayer and share group, and have served on Team, as an Angel, or in some other way have been active in the ministry this past year.  If you feel God is calling you to this service or if you think someone else you know might be interested please give us a list of names (nominations) as soon as possible so that we can hold an election before the end of the year.

Please submit your nominations by contacting our current Co-Chairs:  Belle Renzi 919-550-1954 or Linda Davis at 919-210-4420 or writing Kairos Outside of Eastern NC, P. O. Box 37163, Raleigh, NC  27626.

There are several ways to become involved with Kairos Outside of North Carolina

Team Volunteer

Working as a team member is one of the most rewarding experiences possible. Working a team requires members to meet for 36 hours to prepare for a KO weekend. Members share their special talents - musical, spiritual, social - with Guests and each other. The process begins with a volunteer application, which is submitted to the council and leaders of upcoming Weekends. Leaders begin choosing their team many months in advance, so becoming a team volunteer can take a long time because of all the planning involved.

Angel Volunteer

"Angels" are special volunteers who work behind the scenes during a weekend. They help prepare Guest quarters, set up tables and chairs, clean, cook, run errands and pray during the weekend. We also need help with Guest transportation during weekends. This is a wonderful opportunity for church groups, college and high school students, and youth groups who need service hours.

Prayer Partners

In Kairos Outside, we depend on God to make things happen, so we recruit volunteers to pray for us from start to finish.

Agape

Agape is a sacrificial "love" that takes many forms. It could be prayer or working as an angel. Or it could be making little gifts such as bookmarks or food for our Guests on a weekend. It could also be "green agape", a financial gift that is tax deductible.
